September 11th

Sunday, September 11, 2011   Today marked the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on September 11th. To honor the loss of the victims and their families on that day, the North Branch Fire Company held a 9/11 memorial and dedication service at the firehouse. Along with the North Branch Volunteers, the Country Hills, Bradley Gardens, Readington, Neshanic, Green Knoll Fire Companies, Branchburg, Bradley Gardens Rescue Squads, and the Branchburg Police Department attended the ceremony to help us honor those who were lost. 

We would also like to thank all who helped put the dedication ceremony together and we invite any from the public to come view the 9/11 monument located in front of our firehouse.

     



 

Heavy Rains Keeps the Volunteers Busy

Thursday, September 8, 2011   Throughout the course of Thursday the North Branch Volunteers were kept busy running numerous rain related calls. At approx. 6:30AM units were alerted to assist 74 Rescue  on Readington Rd. at Station Rd. for the occupant in the vehicle stuck in the water. About an hour later 49 and 34 fire were alerted to Voltaix on Meister Ave for an activated fire alarm. Upon Chief 49's arrival, a small electrical fire was found in a light fixture caused by water leaking from the roof. The power to the light was secured, containing the fire to the single fixture. 

The afternoon brought three additional water rescues, including one in the Neshanic section of Branchburg and two in the North Branch Village. Units also ran an activated fire alarm and a basement water hazard before 5pm.

9/11 Memorial

Saturday, August 20, 2011    Our 9/11 Memorial construction continues and will be completed by the 10 year anniversary. The North Branch Volunteers would like to Thank DeLucas Towing and Pollock Brothers Construction for donating their time to construct the memorial. 

     



 

Busy Morning for The Volunteers

Tuesday, August 9, 2011   At 0752 hours 49 Fire was alerted to 6 Tunis Cox Rd in Readington Township as part of the 2nd alarm assignment. Engine 498 arrived on scene with 6 volunteers to find companies opening up the roof, with the main body of fire knocked down. 498's crew reported to staging and was assigned the duties of overhauling the first floor ceiling to check for extension. Crews worked for approximately 30mins before being relieve by fresh crews. 49 units were clear of the scene by the hour mark.

 Once back in quarters District #3 was alerted to the Cheesecake Factory for the reported fire alarm. With crews still in quarters from the first call Engines 498 and 497 went in service. While responding chief 49 advised all units that security was advising there was a small fire in the kitchen. Upon arrival of 498, Chief 34 had made entry and found the fire was out with no extension. With that all units were cleared from the scene.

 After clearing the fire alarm Chief 49 and Engine 498 along with 34 Fire were alerted up onto Rt287 at M/M 20.8 for the reported truck fire. Chief 49 arrived to find a small smoldering fire behind the cab of the truck, with the size of the fire all units were canceled with the exception of E498 which arrived and extinguished the fire with a water can.

   


 

MVA with Pin/Trauma

Friday, July 29, 2011  Friday, July 29, 2011 At 1644 hours North Branch and Green Knoll Fire were alerted to the area of Rt 22 and Rt 28 for the reported serious MVA with entrapment. Acting Squad 498 went right in service and was on scene within 2 minuets of dispatch. Upon Arrival of S498 and Chief 49, they found 1 patient heavily entrapped needing to be removed as quick as possible due to traumatic injuries. At that time due to the patients injuries and the extensiveness of the Pin, Command requested Rescue 74 to the scene. 

Squad 498's crew started cribbing the vehicle, set up the hydraulic tools and assisted EMS with patient care. Eng 497 arrived second due and immediately met with the other crew, at that time both crews started cutting the vehicle away from the patient. Crews did one door pop, one door removal, B post removal, removed what was left of the roof and rolled the dash. From the start of extrication to the time the patient was removed from the vehicle was 10 min.

Units on scene were Squad 498, Rescue 74, Engines 497, 492 and 349, Somerset BLS 803 and 801,Medic 681 and 683, Bridgewater PD and the Somerset County CART team.

     



 

Fire in the Industrial Park

Thursday, July 28, 2011   At 1540 hours 49 and 34 fire were dispatched to 205 Meister Ave for the activated fire alarm. Chief 49 arrived and advised all units that there was a working fire in the A/D corner of the building. Eng497 arrived and its crew stretched a handline and held the fire to its area of origin. Eng 498 arrived sortly after and laid in from the plug. With the fire being handled by the first due engine, command scaled back the response to just first due companies. All units were clear of the scene by the hour mark.

   


 

Brush Fire

Saturday, July 23, 2011  At 1722 Hrs, Stations 49 & 34 were dispatched by Somerseet Comms. to the area of Readington Rd. and Industrial Parkway,  near the NJ Transit Tracks on a report of a possible brush fire.  As Deputy 49 left the station, he could see a rapidly building smoke column going up in the area of dispatch.  Upon arrival, D/C 49 confirmed a large brush fire burning approximately 1/4 mile in off the road along the railroad right-away.  The fire was burning up the hill into the property of the Agfa Corp. on Meister Ave.  Chief 49 (Hickson) responded to the Agfa property, found the fire threatening a building on their property and struck the 2nd alarm.  After aprroximately 1 hr., the fire was knocked down and placed under control with no extension to any structures.  At this time, it appears that the cause of the fire was possibly from wildlife coming in contact with the high tension wires that parallel the railroad.  Units used numerous handlines to combat the fire.

Units on the 1st Alarm:  Engine 49-8, Engine 49-7, Tanker 34, SSU 49-157, Agfa Fire Brigade, Branchburg PD, NJ Transit PD. Branchburg EMS.

Units on the 2nd Alarm: Enigne 32-104, Engine 32-102, Engine 24-105, Brush 24-147, Brush 32, 2 BFU's from NJ Forest Fire Service. Someset County M/A Coordinator 99-A,  Station 32 Fire Police.

MVA w/ Pin and Flyout

Thursday, July 21, 2011 1745 On 07/21/11 at approximately 1745 Hrs., Stations 49 & 34 were dispatched to Vanderveer Rd. near Slack Ct. on a report of a Motor Vehicle Accident with possible entrapment.  Deputy 49 arrived on location and confirmed the pin, with a vehicle into a telephone pole.    Rescue 49 arrived and performed a drivers door removal and dash roll to allow Somerset Medical Center Als & Bls access to the patient.  Engine 49-8 and 34-109 assisted with the extrication and also with pulling a handlne for protection.  NorthStar Medevac was requested with the landing zone at the Milltown Rd. Skate Park.  Chief 34, Engine 34-101 and SSU 49-157 provided coverage at the landing zone.   Northstar transported the patient to Robert Wood Johnson Trauma Center.   Also on location was Bridgewater Police Dept.

Busy Months Continues for the Volunteers

Tuesday, July 19, 2011  At approx. 15:30 hours 49/34 Fire were alerted to Schutz Container on Aspen Hill Rd., Branchburg Twp., for a reported vehicle fire. Deputy 49 arrived confirming a working vehicle fire in the parking lot. Engine 49-108 acted as the first due engine company.

While Units were responding and operating on the vehicle fire, Bridgewater Communications advised command of an additonal call at 502 Vanderveer Rd. reporting an oven fire. With this Chief 49 requested the District 3 Box be dispatched diverting all incoming units, with Engine 108 and Deputy 49 holding to extinguish the MV Fire.

Green Knoll Engine 101 arrived first due on Vanderveer Rd. advising smoke showing from the 2.5 story residential structure. Upon entry, the fire on the oven was found to be extinguished scaling back  the assignment to the 49/34 Units on scene and responding. Companies checked for extension, which proved negative, secured the oven, and provided smoke ventialiton. All Units were clear of both calls by the 1 hour mark.
