Firefighter Machala Becomes a Career Firefighter

He will start his new career later this month as part of MCFRS Recruit Class 35. We wish him the best of luck with his new career!







   


 

MVA/ENTRAPMENT

Tuesday, January 31, 2012  At 0751 Hrs., Stations 49 & 34 were dispatched to Eisenhower School on Eisenhower Ave. on a reported rollover with possible entrapment.  Upon arrival, Chief 49 cofirmed a vehicle on it's side with the driver trapped.  The crews from Rescue 34 and Rescue 49 stabilized the vehicle and had the driver out within 10 minutes of arrival.   Engine 498 crew secured power to the vehicle and handled spill control.  The driver was then transported by EMS to Somerset Medical Center for treatment.  Engine 498 remained on location until the vehicle was uprighted and removed. Structure Fire

Sunday, January 29, 2012  At 1600 Hrs., Station 49 & 34 were dispatched to the Hyatt House Extended Stay located at 530 Rt 22 east in Bridgewater on an activated fire alarm.  Upon arrival, Chief 49 was infromed by staff of an activated alarm in room 1721,  Deputy 49 & Deputy34 made their way to the room and found somke showing and the in-room sprinkler system acitivated.  At this point, 24 Fire and 21 Fire were added to the box as per District Protocol.  Engine 498 arrived and upon making entry into the fire room, found an active fire in the kitchen area with the bulk of the fire knocked down by the sprinkler.  Crews extinguished the remaining fire and secured the sprinkler system.  Once it was determined that there was no extension beyond the room of origin, the  assignment was scaled back to units from Station 49.

Units on Scene:  49-10, 49-11, Engine 498, Rescue 49, 34-10, 34-11, Engine 34-109, Bradley EMS, Bridgewater PD, Bridgewater Fire Official.

Station 24 and Station 21 FAST held in quarters due to the  Fire Suppression System (sprinklers) doing their job!

     



 

North Branch Member joins the NJ State Police Ranks

Saturday, January 28, 2012   The North Branch Fire Company would like to congratulate Firefighter Dave Allen on graduating from the 151st NJ State Police Academy class. Dave and 84 other recruits joined the State Police ranks at a graduation held on January 27th after completing 6 months of training in the State Police Academy. We wish Dave the best of luck as he begins his career as a trooper stationed out of Bordentown.

   


 

Explosion in the Industrial Park

Saturday, January 21, 2012  At 20:36hours the North Branch Volunteers were alerted to 197 Meister Ave for a reported fire alarm. While Deputy 49 was responding County Communications advised that employees on scene were reporting some type of explosion in the building, while this the 1st alarm was transmitted on Box 4903. Upon arrival of the Deputy it was confirmed that there had been an explosion with unknown fire conditions. Engine 498 arrived and its crew made entry with the on-site emergency response team to confirm if there was a fire or hazardous material's leaking. The fire was found to be mostly extinguished from the force of the explosion but a small leak was detected. With this all crews were removed from the building and the on-site response team remade entry and mitigated the problem.

Units on scene for Box 4903 were- Engine 492, 498, 34-109, 32-104, Truck 34-116 and 32-115. All units were clear by the hour mark.

   


 

SCESTA Fall Graduation

Friday, January 20, 2012  Friday evening North Branch Volunteers attended the Somerset County Emergency Service Training Academy Fall graduation at the Hillsborough Middle School. Congraluations to ALL the firefighters that took classes and passed their State exams. The following members graduated as representatives for the North Branch Fire Co.

Engines Run House Fire with the District

Thursday, January 19, 2012  At 0127 Hrs., District  3 Fire was dispatched to 926 Rt. 202/206 in Company 34's primary for a reported structure fire.  Upon his arrival, Chief 34, Vitale, confirmed a working fire in an irregular  25 X 60 1.5 story single family dwelling, with fire showing through the roof.  Engine 34-109 arrived and stretched 2 - 1.75 lines and began an aggressive interior attack assisted by the crews from Engine 498 and 24-105, who also pulled a 3rd handline.  Truck 34 threw ground ladders and vented the roof,  All visible fire was knocked down at the 30 minute mark and the fire was placed under control within an hour.  Chief 34 struck the 2nd alarm for manpower as the temp. dipped into the low teens, which brought engine companies from Martinsville and Finderne to the scene. The house that was involved was a series of apparently 3 separate structures, the middle of which was a fiberglass and wood houseboat!  1 resident of the house suffered a minor injury and was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

Working Fire in the Industrial Park

Friday, December 30, 2011  At 1536 Hrs, Stations 49 & 34 were dispatched to Structural Foam Plastics at 68 County Line Rd in Branchburg Township for the reported fire in the warehouse. Chief 49, Hickson, requested that 21 Fire RIT be added to the box.  Upon arrival, companies found an active fire located in the 300X600 warehouse with zero visibility and the sprinkler system activated.  Engine 498 crew stretched a 3 inch line along with their highrise pack into the warehouse and began to search for the fire.  Chief Hickson immediately requested a second alarm.  Interior crews were able to find a deep-seated dumpster fire that had spread to racks of plastic storage.  Engine 497 arrived and stretched  a additional handline into the building.  Trucks 34 and 32 laddered the roof and began vertical ventilation through the skylights, some of which had plywood placed over them from the inside.   The fire was placed under control at the 80 minute mark and companies continued to operate for approximately 2.5 hrs.
