Station 49 was alerted at 0833 Hrs. to set up a landing zone at Old Town Park on DeAngelo Dr. in Branchburg. Northstar was requested to fly the victim of an auto vs. bicycle accident at the intersection of County Line & Harlan School Rds. Deputy 49 and Engine 49-8 went in service with the Deputy acting as LZ Coordinator. NorthStar landed at the LZ and upon arrival of EMS with the patient, it was determined that the transport would be completed by ground ALS as there was insufficient trauma to warrant the flight. Branchburg/Whitehouse EMS 32-50 and Somerset ALS 681 transported by ground. All Station 49 units were available at the 30 minute mark.

 
STRUCTURE FIRE

At 0924 Hrs., 49 & 32 Fire were dispatched to 47 Readington Rd. on a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, Deputy 49 confirmed the working fire on the roof of a 200 x 700 warehouse. Engine 49-8 arrived and laid their own 700 ft. 5 inch supply line. Truck 32 and Truck 34 arrived and along with an additional crew from Hunterdon Station 31, went to work opening up the roof and extinguishing the fire which involved the decking and insulation of the roof. Crews used 4 handiness and the fire was placed under control at about the 50 minute mark. Cause of the fire was welding on the roof. All units were back in service at the 2 hr. mark. Fire was confined to area of the roof approximately 50 Ft x 30 Ft. First Alarm: Eng 49-8, 49-2, 32-104, 32-102 Truck 32, Truck 34 (Special Call) Rescue 49 21 FAST 2nd Alarm: Eng 34-9, Hunterdon 31-62 Hunterdon Truck 22-69 Hunterdon Squad 18 Also on scene was Branchburg EMS who handled REHAB sector, Branchburg Police, Fire Official, Somerset County Fire Coordinator, Hunterdon County Fire Coordinator. Station Coverage handled by Country Hills FC.

 
   
   
Engine and Rescue Run MVC

At 22:26 hours 49 Fire and 74 Rescue were alerted to Readington Rd in the area of Monica Ct for the reported MVC. Chief and Deputy Chief 49 arrived to find a 2 car head-on collision, with the 2 cars about 200ft from each other. Engine 49-108 arrived, and its crew went to work stretching a hand line and started providing BLS care till EMS arrived. With the assistance of Rescue 49's crew EMS removed the patients from the vehicles and transported both patients to the hospital. Engine 49-108 remained on scene until tow trucks removed both vehicles. After approximately 40 min on scene all units were clear of the scene.

 
   
   
Engines Run Brush Fire

At 19:47 hours 49 Fire was alerted to in the area of 100 Aspen Hill Rd for the reported Brush Fire. As Eng49-108 called in service Bridgewater dispatch advised that they had a second brush fire on Milltown Rd, with this Lt 49 requested 24 Fire to respond to the second Brush Fire. 108 arrived to find a 40ft by 35ft area of brush actively burning. 108's crew stretched a line and started knocking down the bulk of the fire. Eng102 arrived and started overhauling the burnt area, while 108's crew finished extinguishing the fire. All units were clear of the scene within 20 min. Also on scene was the NJ Forestry Service and Branchburg Rescue Squad.

 
Company Runs Chimney Fire

At 21:34 hours the North Branch Volunteers were alerted to the area near Quick Check, on Rt28 for a caller reporting a trailer on fire. PD arrived in the area and found the fire to be farther down Rt 28 by the Bridgewater town line, and that it was a house not a trailer, with fire showing from the chimney. With the update, Chief 49 requested 32 Fire for the Tower Ladder. Engine 49-108 arrived on scene and went to work laddering the roof, to get to the chimney. Rescue 49's crew went interior with Deputy 49 to finish evacuating the residents and check for extension. After checking for extension, it was found that the fire was contained to the chimney. After about 30 min on the roof Eng 108's crew had extinguished the fire and overhauled the top of the chimney. Units on scene were 49 and 32 Fire, 74 Rescue and Branchburg PD.

 
Engine and Rescue Run First Due Pin

At 6:15 hours the North Branch Volunteers were alerted along with 74 Rescue, onto Rt22 in the center median, for the reported overturned vehicle with possible entrapment. 49-11 arrived on scene and confirmed entrapment of one patient in a vehicle resting on its passenger side, and called for 32 Fire for 1 Engine to help provide scene safety on the highway. Eng 49-108 arrived and pulled a line for protection and started stabilizing the vehicle. Rescue 49 arrived and went to work cutting the driver side posts to do a modified roof flap. Within 10 mins of the Rescue arriving the driver was removed from the vehicle and loaded in an awaiting ambulance. By the 30 min mark all units were clear of the scene.

 
   
   
District runs Smoke in the Building

At around 2000 hours the District 3 fire companies were alerted to Betts Trail for the reported structure fire. While in service dispatch advised 49-10 that it was a kitchen fire, and the homeowner believed he had it extinguished. 49-10 and Eng 49-108 arrived and confirmed the fire was out. All units were canceled with the exception of 108, who handled venting the building. All units were clear by the 20 min mark.

I-287 Medevac

On 08/02/10 companies 34 & 49 were dispatched to Interstate 287 at MM 14.7 N/B to set up a landing zone for Med-E-Vac, who was landing to fly the victim of a tractor-trailer Vs. pedestrian MVA. Engine 34-101 and Engine 49-108 responded. Incident Command was handled by NJSP per limited access highway protocol. Deputy 34 had fire ops. Also on scene was Somerset Medical Center ALS & BLS and NJDOT.

 
   
   
POSSIBLE HAZMAT

On 07-31-10 at 2012 hrs, 49 Fire was dispatched to Gibson Tube on Aspen Hill Rd. on a report of an Activated Elevator Alarm. Upon making entry into the building, numerous Hazardous Gas alarms, including Argon, Hydrogen and Nitrogen were found to be activated. Chief 49 asked for the box to be filled out and special called the Somerset County Hazmat team. An entry team consisting of members from 49 and the HazMat team entered the building and shut off the emergency shut off's for the systems. After the building was monitored and found to be clear, the situation was deemed under control and property turned back over to the building staff. One FF from 49 was treated on scene for exhaustion. Units on location were companies 49, 32, 24, Branchburg EMS, Somerset Medical ALS, County HazMat, Branchburg OEM and Branchburg PD.

 
   
   
MVA w/FIRE

On 07/21/10 companies 34 & 49 responded to Hanlon Dr. on a report of a dump truck vs. pole with wires and transformers down and on fire. Upon arrival, companies found that a dump truck was driving across the construction site with its body and hooked the overhead power lines. This caused a pole with transformers on top to fall along with the truck becoming rapped up in power lines. The driver leaped free of the vehicle prior to FD arrival. The transformer was on the ground next to the truck on fire. Once power was secure, members extinguished the fire using dry chem. Chief 49 had command. Units on scene were 34 & 49 Fire, Martinsville EMS, Public Service Electric and Bridgewater PD.

At 0720 hours 49 Fire was special requested, for their cascade unit, into the Whitehouse section of Readington Township. Where numerous Hunterdon County companies had been operating at a structure fire on Rt 22 east for approximately 2 hours. Initial crews had made an interior attack but were forced out when the fire overran the cockloft. Rescue 49 remained on scene for just under an hour filling air bottles and assisting with clean up.

 
Engine Runs Car Fire

At 2105hours 49 Fire was alerted to Country Club rd in the area of Garretson Rd for the reported vehicle fire. Eng 49-108 went in service as the first due Engine, while en-route Captain 49 arrived and confirmed one vehicle well off. 49-108 arrived and made a quick knock down of the fire. Units remained on scene for approximately 30 min until the vehicle was towed.

Deck Fire with Extension

At approx. 18:30 hours District 3 Fire was dispatched to 4 Delaney Ct. in 49's primary for the reported deck fire. Chief 49 arrived to find a fire on the rear deck extending into the home. The first due crew from Engine 49-108 stretched a 1.75" line to rear and additional line through the front door to hold fire extension. The fire was held to a portion of the deck and a section of the siding on the house. Units on scene consisted of 49, 34, and 24 Fire. 21 Fire on the R.I.T. assignment. Rescue Squad 39, Bridgewater Fire Officials, and Bridgewater PD.

 
   
   
District 3 Dryer Fire

Just before midnight District 3 Fire Units were alerted for a Fire in the Residence on North Gaston Ave. Chief 49 arrived to find smoke showing from a 2.5 story single family. 49-108 acted as the 2nd due engine and went to work stretching a backup line and assisting Truck 34 with ventilation. The fire was contained to a dryer in the basement. 49 Fire units cleared the scene by the hour mark.

 
Company Runs Car Fire on the Highway

At Approx 1730 hours the North Branch Volunteers responded with 34 Fire onto 287 south in the area of MM 17 for a reported car fire. With a crew in quarters, Eng49-108 immediately went in service with three volunteers. While en-route, dispatch advised all units that PD was on scene confirming a fully involved van fire. Chief 49 and Deputy 49 arrived first to advise all units that the fire was in the express lanes. 1st due Eng49-108 arrived on scene and pulled the 1 3/4 rear preconnect to start attacking the fire. Command then advised all other responding units to take the local lanes to the fire scene due to heavy traffic conditions. 2nd due Eng34-101 arrived and also pulled an 1 3/4 line to help the 108's crew fully extinguish the fire. Units remained on scene for approx. 30 min. due to extensive overhaul from magnesium burning in the passenger compartment.
